I want to tell you about this wonderful experience that we've had with adopting our Mini Schnauzer, "Danny Boy" from your shelter on November 17, 2003.  My sons had asked me for years to get a dog but I had to say no since I was working out of town and didn't feel it was fair to leave a dog home alone all day. A couple of months ago I took a friend of mines' dog for a walk a few times. The dog is a Schnauzer named Gretel.  A real cutie!  Well, after falling in love with her and then introducing her to my parents that live down the street, they also fell in love with her.  My parents are elderly and wouldn't take the step to go out and get a dog on their own. So I asked my parents that if I got a dog would they take care of it at their house during the daytime on the 4 days that I work.  I now work locally and they live halfway between my house and work.  Well, to my surprise my parents both lit up and said yes!  So I knew at that point that it was time to move forward with finding a dog that would be a match for us and us for it.  After doing some research on the Internet at various shelters I decided to submit my application to your shelter.

One evening I received an email from the Mini Schnauzer Rescue saying that my application had been processed and approved. I found this email about 7:00 at night. I checked your web site to see if there were any new dogs listed on the site and sure enough there was "Danny Boy", a one-year-old salt and pepper. His picture wasn't on it so I didn't know what he looked like.  I called the rescue and spoke to Janet and she gave me the foster mom's phone number to call.  The foster mom asked me when I would like to come and see him and I asked for that evening if that was okay.  It was a gut feeling to go and meet him that night.  I called my parents to see if they were ready to go and look at the dog and they were ready in minutes. We traveled over an hour to get to the house.  It was "Love at First Sight" for all of us.  With "Danny Boy" looking very content on my parents lap, my 14 yr. old son and myself, I could see it was a good match for all. Ruth and Bob could see this also. I asked her what our next step was and she said to sign the papers and I could take him home that night.  We couldn't believe it. He had a crate with him and food so he was ready to go. The ride home was with Daniel in the back seat sharing my parents lap and immediately looking happy and adapting to his new family.  The foster volunteer and her husband are incredible people for being Foster parents that take in dogs in need of a home while waiting to be adopted.  They showed us photos of all their furry friends they've taken in throughout the years.  I can't tell you the joy Daniel (Danny Boy) has given to all of us.  When I drop him off to my parents on the days that I work and pick him up and to see the joy on my parents face is so heart warming.  We are all so happy.  He gets plenty of love and attention from all of us.  I enjoy walking him daily and he enjoys it.  It's great exercise for both of us.  It's been three months and he has been an absolute pleasure to have him in all our lives. It's mutual love! Even my boyfriend spoils him with love, attention and plenty of exercise. He runs Daniel on the leash when we go walking and the dog loves the exercise. We are taking him to obedience classes starting this week.  My parents, my son and myself are all being involved in this so that we are all communicating the same way with him.

I would like to thank you for helping bring Daniel into our homes and hearts.  They say there's a right time for everything in life and this was our time!
